DALLASITES!

Beginning August 15th, all City Council Members are holding in-person and virtual Public Town Halls to get feedback on the City of Dallas Budget.

This is our opportunity to weigh in that we would like City of Dallas Leadership Awareness and Public Tax Dollars allocated towards Dallas Animal Services and issues associated with Dallas's Dog and Cat Overpopulation Issue.

Below is a hit list of topics to directly communicate where stable and additional funding and support is needed.

  1. OVERWHELM FOR AGING BUILDING - structure was built in 2006 and not meant to house the ongoing, over-capacity animal population. AC/HVAC issues are regular and hundreds of living beings are housed in this building 24/7. The current building allows for easy disease spread and non-ideal space for dogs to maintain their health and sanity. Because a new DAS building was not considered in the 2024 City Bond, upgrades to the current building are desperately needed - especially to the AC/HVAC system and new, additional parking.
  2. ONGOING VET FUNDING - this is an essential part of keeping DAS animals and the Dallas pet population, at large, healthy as well as important to help control our overpopulation. All dogs and cats which pass through DAS receive spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchips, heartworm therapy (when needed), and injury/illness care (as needed).
  3. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS & SUPPORT - promotion, outreach, and citation resolution for important current laws including spay & neuter, on-leash requirements, and illegal breeding.
