Help Rescue Dogs Find Homes, Build Dog Parks Where People Adopt
Dallas Animal Services is always over capacity with a dog population hovering around 150%, at all times. Over just the last year, there have been 14 news articles published about the dog overpopulation crisis in Dallas and at Dallas Animal Services.
Here's an idea that might help.
BIG IDEA: Help shelter dogs find homes by building dog parks in the zip codes that adopt more dogs. And let people know why.
Did you know residents of the Dallas zip codes on the left are 4X more likely to adopt rescue dogs per capita than the zip codes on the right?
I live in downtown Dallas, which has the 4th most likely zip code per capita to adopt rescue dogs, 75202.
I started a petition to raise support for building a dog park in Civic Garden in downtown Dallas, a park in 75202 that many dogs visit daily.

Please consider signing my petition so we may add a dog park to downtown Dallas and sharing the petition with friends, family, reporters, activists, and city leaders.
Shelters are full. If we think creatively, we can do more to help shelter dogs.
NOTE: To build the Dallas Zip Code Adoption comparison table above, I analyzed the zip codes of dog adopters over the last 5 years from Dallas Animal Services (Open records #C008994-083024, Sep. 17, 2024). This Dallas animal adoption data record is available for download at my Dallas dog park petition link.

Is it easy to have a dog in downtown Dallas?
Having a dog in Downtown Dallas is fun and sometimes challenging.
While there are many dog-friendly places downtown, we need a dog park in Civic Garden.
