How To Foster A Dog From Rowlett Animal Services
Fostering is a wonderful way to help an animal get adopted. Read our DLB Fostering Steps here and be sure you dive into the 333 Rule to set you and your foster dog up for success!
Dog, Cat, and Kitten fostering allows the animal to decompress and let their personality out so there are better notes to better match them to a new home!
Rescue animal fostering also helps alleviate space at animal shelters so when you foster a dog or cat from the Irving Animal Shelter, you are helping that animal as well as the animal who gets to take their cleared kennel!
Rowlett Animal Services offers the following foster opportunities:
- FOSTER (general) Foster an animal to give them a break from the shelter, get good photos and videos and help market them! Tips to Market Your Foster Pet
- "FOSTER TO ADOPT" 30-DAY TRIAL Take a new pet home and see if it's a fit before committing! Be sure to employ the 333 Rule to set you and your new pet up for success!
- UNDERAGED KITTENS/PUPPIES Underaged kittens and puppies may go into foster to grow into age and weight when they can be spayed/neutered and adopted.
How to foster with RAS:
- FOSTER FORMS forms must be filled out, in person, at the shelter (for general fostering or foster-to-adopt)
- GENERAL FOSTERING will require providing the shelter with updates and participation in adoption events
- FOSTER REQUIREMENTS include valid ID, permission to have pets at your home, all shelter foster forms completed
All supplies will be provided to fosters including medical care and needs, a kennel, food, litter, etc.

Rowlett Animal Services: PUP DAY OUT
Give a pup a break from that shelter kennel live for a day!
If you want to hang out with a dog in consideration for adoption or just want to get a dog out on the town for some fun and maybe running into their new human, a Pup Day Out is the way to go!
- CONNECT WITH ROWLETT ANIMAL SERVICES
- CHOOSE A DOG
- PAPERWORK
- ADOPT ME GEAR provided by shelter
- HIT THE TOWN take your PDO dog to dog-friendly spots for adventure and maybe someone will spy them and fall in love!
IMPORTANT RULES: No dog parks and no off-leash outdoor adventures (but it is okay to take them to your home to hang, play, or have a little nap, etc! But do NOT introduce your own pets to a PDO dog - this is not worth the risk, chancing it with quick intros, and they may not be cat friendly, etc... just don't risk it!)
When can you take a Rowlett Animal Shelter dog on a "Pup Day Out?" The shelter will discuss options with you and allows for short day trips, overnight slumber parties, or weekend stays.
