The Real Fix

There is one primary solution to the dog and cat overpopulation crisis.
Spay & Neuter
That's it.
One unsterilized dog and its offspring can produce thousands of dogs over several years.
Prevent litters → reduce intake → reduce euthanasia.
If even 50% of the billions spent annually went to spay/neuter awareness, enforcement, and access, we could dramatically reduce shelter overcrowding, euthanasia for space, and community cat population explosion.
United States Animal Welfare efforts WERE focused on spay & neuter, in past.
What Happened To The Emphasis On Spay & Neuter?
Social Media. What gets attention, fundraising, followers, shares is Tragedy Narrative. Spay & Neuter is largely invisible.
But I see great work with "No Kill" efforts and legislation!
No Kill is a fallacy, a managed-intake privilege, a marketing language gimmick - "No Kill" shelters and rescues are universally impossible without massive spay & neuter effort.
How can we encourage Spay & Neuter emphasis?
- LAW if Spay/Neuter is not law in your city - work to make that happen
- SHELTER/RESCUE if releasing animals unaltered is policy - work to change that
- DONATIONS support spay & neuter efforts with where you choose to put time and money
